Leadership That Upholds a Global Benchmark

Fiordland Southern Rock Lobster has been built by people — from the fishing families who harvest the lobsters, to the team who manage, market, and guide the business.

Our strength lies in combining generations of knowledge with professional leadership. Together, our Board and Leadership Team provide the direction, governance, and expertise to ensure Fiordland remains the global benchmark for Southern Rock Lobster.

"Amazing families catching amazing food. The strength of this company is the team — from fishers to staff to management and board. Through COVID, the bravery of the Fiordland staff was outrageously impressive."

Guardianship of the Ocean

At Fiordland Southern Rock Lobster, our work begins and ends with the ocean. The southern rock lobster is not only our livelihood but also an indicator of the health of our marine ecosystems. We recognise the privilege of working in these waters and carry the responsibility of safeguarding them for future generations.

We operate within the strict quota management systems of New Zealand and Australia, recognised globally as models for sustainable fisheries. Every lobster harvested is traceable, every quota carefully managed, and every decision guided by a conservation ethic.

Sustainable Fishing Practices

We work with more than 80 fishing families across New Zealand and Australia, many of whom have been in the industry for generations. Together, we apply sustainable practices that respect both the species and the marine environment.

Our commitment includes:

  • Quota management – ensuring catches remain within scientifically assessed limits.
  • Selective harvesting – returning undersized lobsters and breeding females to the sea.
  • Continuous monitoring – working with scientists, regulators, and the Fiordland Marine Guardians to maintain a healthy fishery.

Conservation Partnerships

We are long-standing supporters of the Fiordland Marine Guardians, a pioneering community–government partnership established to protect the unique Fiordland marine environment. Through this relationship, we contribute knowledge, resources, and leadership to ensure the ongoing preservation of one of the world’s most special places.

Our efforts extend beyond Fiordland. By supporting research and environmental initiatives across New Zealand, we help strengthen the ecosystems that our fishing communities and customers rely on.

Quality and Responsibility Hand in Hand

Responsibility is not only about how we fish, but also how we deliver. Lobster is a delicate species, and care is required at every stage — from the ocean, through our facilities, onto aircraft, and finally to the restaurant. Handling practices are continually reviewed and improved to ensure every lobster arrives in pristine condition.

Looking Ahead

Sustainability is not a destination — it is a process. We are constantly seeking smarter, faster, and better ways to strengthen our fishery, reduce environmental impacts, and support the communities that depend on us.
